Members from the Licensing Team at Newry and Mourne District Council and Niall Adams from Tascomi, delivered a presentation about mobile-working at an Association of Public Sector Excellence (APSE) seminar last Friday.
The Newry and Mourne staff outlined the great benefits which use of the Licensing App, developed in partnership with Tascomi, has brought to their department including a 30% reduction in office processes per Officer. The app has enabled better scheduling, reduction of dead travel time and optimised time out of the office. Fintan Quinn, Senior Licenscing Officer, descibed how:
- It has helped with enforcement issues as officers have access to the previous history relating to a case.
- A 90% reduction in paper has made a significant contribution to achieve STEM targets.
- Communications are emailed directly from the web-based system and received documentation is scanned and stored in the system, accessible by officers via the app remotely. Removal of duplication of data entry and leading to enhanced administration process and service delivery.
- Use of the App saves server space and I.T. resources
Fintan and Niall both described how working in partnership to develop the app ensured that the final result has provided staff with a solution that addressed a number of issues which were hindering the most efficient working practices. The catalyst to move towards mobile working was a flood in their office a couple of years ago, whereby paper files and records were damaged. Now records are both stored and accessed electronically, bringing a significant reduction in costs.
The presentation and experience of Newry and Mourne District Council gave delegates from various local authorities a great example of how perceived barriers to the adoption of mobile-working can be overcome. For further details please contact moc.imocsatnull@ofni
