This week, Tascomi’s Rebecca Ferris will be swapping her role as a Software Developer to become a Technical Mentor for Specialisterne NI as part of their STEMLabs programme.
Taking place 12-16 August 2019 at the charity’s office based in East Belfast, the programme will invite young autistic people from across Northern Ireland to take part. With 15 free spaces available the programme will work with pupils aged 11-18 who identify with being on the Autistic Spectrum.
Rebecca will join a team of mentors who will support participants through a range of activities. From building and developing Lego Mindstorms Robots to taking part in social communication workshops, the project aims to develop the skills needed for autistic people to succeed in STEM careers.
Specialisterne NI have worked with over 400 young people and adults on the Autistic Spectrum in Northern Ireland, encouraging individuals to realise their potential and supporting educators and employers to understand how to develop the skills of people on the Autistic Spectrum.
